Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Wednesday arrested Mohammad Mozammel Haque, 67, during an operation in Gulshan, Dhaka.
He is an executive member of Awami League’s Cultural Sub-Committee and president of the central executive council of Bangabandhu Foundation.
According to sources at Gulshan Police Station, Mozammel Haque had provided financial support to leaders and activists of Awami League through various channels. Authorities also reported that he was involved in circulating information about the party’s programmes among its members.
This was despite the fact that the current government had banned the activities of the Awami League and its affiliate organisations earlier this year.
Following the arrest, legal action has been initiated against him, and the case is currently under investigation by Gulshan police.
