The enduring appeal of Agatha Christie continues to grow, with the legendary crime writer’s estate reporting record-breaking revenue in 2025, writes Deadline.
According to newly filed financial accounts, Agatha Christie Limited generated nearly £33 million ($43.9 million) in revenue last year—the highest annual figure in the company’s 40-year history.
The total marks a 24 per cent increase from 2024 and surpasses the previous record of £26.7 million, set in 2018.
The company also posted a pre-tax profit of £20 million, up from £13.7 million the previous year, reflecting strong global demand for Christie’s books, television adaptations and licensed properties.
Agatha Christie Limited attributed the milestone to growth across publishing, television distribution and licensing, driven by renewed interest in the author’s timeless detective stories.
Among the key contributors were Netflix’s Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials and the upcoming Tommy & Tuppence adaptation for BritBox.
The company also reported strong international sales of its classic television catalogue, particularly in the United States, where long-running adaptations of Poirot and Marple continue to attract audiences.
Looking ahead, Agatha Christie Limited confirmed that new projects are in development with 20th Century Studios, the company behind Kenneth Branagh’s successful Hercule Poirot films, including Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile and A Haunting in Venice.
The Christie universe is also expanding on television.
The BBC is developing a new adaptation of Poirot, titled Hercule, with Edward Bluemel set to play the iconic Belgian detective.
BritBox will co-produce the series, which is reportedly planned as a three-season production.
Agatha Christie remains one of the world’s best-selling authors, with more than two billion copies of her books sold worldwide.
Her enduring popularity across literature, film and television continues to make her works a valuable global entertainment franchise decades after her death.
