Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman has resigned after collecting nomination from BNP for the Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa) constituency, to vie in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
He submitted his resignation letter at the Attorney General’s Office on Saturday, which will be forwarded to the president. The matter was confirmed by the office’s Administrative Officer Md Nasir Uddin.
Speaking to TIMES of Bangladesh, Nasir Uddin said, “The attorney general has submitted his resignation letter at the Attorney General’s Office. It will be sent to the Law Ministry on Sunday morning.”
On 21 December, Asaduzzaman announced his intention to contest the upcoming election from Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa) as a BNP candidate. Subsequently, on 23 December, leaders of the Shailkupa Upazila BNP collected the nomination form on his behalf.
After the fall of the Awami League regime in the mass uprising, Md Asaduzzaman, BNP’s Human Rights Secretary and a senior advocate of the Supreme Court, was appointed attorney general on 8 August last year.
In the 2018 National Parliamentary Election, he was a candidate from the Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa) constituency under the BNP’s “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol.
