Acting President and Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad will perform his official duties at Bangabhaban while continuing to reside at speaker’s residence within Parliament building complex. The acting president confirmed these arrangements during a conversation with media.
This development follows resignation of Mohammed Shahabuddin from the presidency on Friday due to health reasons. In accordance with the Constitution, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad subsequently assumed the responsibilities of acting president.
A special security detail designated for the president’s protection has been in place at speaker’s residence and its surrounding areas since Friday afternoon.
According to sources at Bangabhaban, the acting president has a scheduled programme for Sunday. At 11:30am, Hafiz Uddin Ahmad will place a wreath at National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar to honour heroic martyrs.
Later, at 12:30pm, he is scheduled to visit Sher-e-Bangla Nagar to pay his respects and offer prayers at the graves of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
