The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to file a case against Nurjahan Begum, wife of former Awami League lawmaker from Feni-2 constituency Nizam Uddin Hazari, over undisclosed wealth amounting to Tk45 crore.
ACC Director General Akhter Hossain disclosed the information at a briefing on Tuesday.
According to the ACC, Nurjahan Begum submitted her statement of assets to the commission on 10 April 2025, declaring that she had acquired assets worth Tk53.64 crore.
The ACC found that she had a legitimate income source amounting to Tk16.46 crore against this accumulation. Her family expenses were calculated at Tk8.16 crore.
“After deducting family expenses, her net income or savings stood at Tk8.30 crore. Thus, it was determined that she had accumulated wealth worth Tk45.35 crore beyond known sources of income,” the ACC said.
Meanwhile, the commission found that Nurjahan Begum opened a current account at the Feni branch of First Security Islami Bank and made suspicious transactions worth Tk43.32 crore between 22 May 2019 and 13 August 2024 – an offence punishable under Section 4 of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012.
The anti-graft watchdog decided to file a case against Nurjahan Begum for possessing illegal wealth of Tk45 crore and for conducting suspicious transactions of Tk43 crore through her bank account under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004 and Section 4 of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012.
