The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against 26 individuals, including S Alam Group Chairman Saiful Alam and Sikder Group Managing Director Ron Haque Sikder, on charges of embezzling Tk150 crore in bank loans.
ACC Deputy Director Aktarul Islam disclosed the information to journalists on Wednesday.
The accused include Sikder Group’s Managing Director Ron Haque Sikder, Director Rick Haque Sikder, their three sisters – Mumtazul Haque Sikder, Liza Fatema Haque Sikder, and Parveen Haque Sikder—as well as Rick Haque Sikder’s son, John Haque Sikder.
The other accused include First Security Islami Bank’s former chairman S Alam, bank’s former Senior Assistant Vice President and Manager MM Mostafizur Rahman, former Deputy Managing Director Zahurul Haque, former Additional Managing Director Abdul Aziz, Managing Director Syed Wasek Md. Ali, former Vice Chairman Mohammad Abdul Malek, former Directors Farzana Parveen and Atikur Nesa, former Independent Director Mohammad Ishaq, Ahmad Muqtadir Arif, Dr. Momtaz Uddin Ahmed, former Nominated Director Khandakar Iftekhar Ahmed, Badrun Nesa, Jamal Mostafa Chowdhury, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Molla Fazle Akbar, and former Director Wahidul Alam Sheth.
According to the case statement, through John Haque Sikder, proprietor of Nam Sarbasta Institution Bengal and M & M Services, in collusion with officials and members of the board of First Security Islami Bank, the accused abused their authority with dishonest intent, committing fraud to benefit themselves or others.
The case file further states that the loan proposal was both placed and approved by the bank’s board on the same day, without any collateral or registration of charge documents. The entire loan amount was disbursed and withdrawn immediately, in clear violation of standard investment disbursement protocols.
Tk150 crore was issued as a pay order by First Security Islami Bank and transferred to an account at National Bank. On the same day, the funds were allegedly funneled into accounts associated with the Sikder family, resulting in financial losses for both the bank and the state.
