Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal, director general of Fire Service and Civil Defence, has called upon all officers and employees to place the institution’s interests above everything else.

He made the call while addressing a Darbar (gathering) held at the Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters at 10:30am on Monday, attended by officials and employees of all levels, reads a press release.

Directors, along with officers and staff stationed in Dhaka, were present at the event, while divisional deputy directors and district officers joined virtually from their respective workplaces.

Upon his arrival at 10:30am, the director general was formally greeted, and the Darbar was handed over to him by Lt Col Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, SGP, PSC, Director (Operations and Maintenance).

In his address, the Director General welcomed everyone and highlighted the various initiatives and development activities undertaken during his tenure. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to all members of the force for earning nationwide appreciation through their operational work. To sustain this success, he urged everyone to prioritise institutional interests over personal ones.

The DG also called upon the general public to remain cautious during the upcoming dry season to reduce fire incidents. He instructed all officers and employees to continue the department’s ongoing awareness programmes diligently.

At the end of the Darbar, the Director General handed over commemorative medals sent by the Government of Myanmar to 10 members who participated in the earthquake response operations in Myanmar.

He also distributed awards to those who achieved distinction in divisional and central-level professional competitions and demonstrated exceptional administrative performance.

The awards, presented under the newly introduced category titled “Director General’s Appreciation,” included insignias, certificates, and cash prizes, an initiative aimed at motivating members to enhance their professional skills and dedication.

The event concluded with a lunch session at 1:15pm.
