A total of 42,761 polling centres will be set up across the country for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, the Election Commission (EC) announced on Monday.
Senior Secretary of the EC, Akhtar Ahmed, shared the information with the media, outlining key logistical details of the election preparations.
According to the EC secretary, the total number of polling booths stands at 244,649, including 115,137 for male voters and 129,602 for female voters. Additionally, 12,000 temporary booths have been designated for specific needs.
While acknowledging a slight delay in implementing parts of the commission’s action plan, the secretary said, “We are lagging behind in two areas, one of them being the registration of political parties.”
He further informed that the re-investigation of political parties has been completed and that the final registration process will be concluded within this week.
Addressing questions regarding the National Citizen Party (NCP)’s “Shapla” (water lily) symbol, Akhtar Ahmed confirmed that the previous EC decision remains unchanged, adding, “As far as I know, no new decision has been taken on this matter. The commission had earlier decided to allocate the symbol at its own discretion.”
The EC secretary also admitted that the registration process for election observer organisations has experienced some delays. “Work is ongoing, and the process will be completed very soon,” he assured.
