National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary has dismissed reports claiming that he resigned from the party, calling them “baseless rumours.”
“I am with the NCP and will remain with the party until the formation of the government,” Patwari told journalists on Friday afternoon.
Addressing the sudden spread of the rumour, he said, “These kinds of stories often circulate. Some people, in the name of investigative journalism, end up firing missiles in the wrong direction.
“What the country really needs now is proper investigative journalism to identify where corruption is taking root.”
Patwari alleged that the incumbent government has continued the same pattern of corruption seen during the previous administration.
“From the Secretariat to the bureaucracy, the same practices persist. Journalists should focus on where reforms in the military, police, and other sectors have failed, as pointed out in various reform commission reports,” he added.
Criticising what he termed “irresponsible journalism,” Patwari said, “Overnight, a rumour is spread – this kind of unethical reporting must stop.”
He also accused a certain business group – which owns newspapers and television channels – of promoting “toxic journalism.”
According to him, even journalists trying to uphold ethical standards within those organisations are becoming victims of such practices. Patwari called for a return to “healthy, issue-based politics” in Bangladesh.
Rumours of his resignation surfaced on Thursday night through several media outlets. However, the NCP later issued an official statement denying the reports and labeling them as false.
