A Dhaka court has ruled that the dismissal order of Md Delowar Hossain, former registrar of Gono Bishwabidyalay (a private university based in Savar, Dhaka) as illegal.
Dhaka Senior Assistant Judge Md Habibur Rahman handed down the verdict on Wednesday.
The ruling was confirmed by the plaintiff’s lawyer, SH Krishna, who stated, “The court has declared the order dismissing Mr Md Delowar Hossain from the post of registrar of Gono Bishwabidyalay illegal. With this, there is no longer any obstacle preventing him from regaining the post of registrar.”
Another lawyer representing the plaintiff, Md Abdur Razzak Shahraj, added that the person currently serving in as registrar at Gono Bishwabidyalay had been appointed on a temporary basis, and, therefore, Md Delowar Hossain will soon be returning to his former post.
Delowar Hossain added, “I, along with the late Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, established Gono Bishwabidyalay. The purpose of establishing this university was to ensure affordable education. However, I was dismissed from my role based on false allegations. Justice has now been established through this verdict.”
On 12 September, 2020, the Gono Bishwabidyalay’s Board of Trustees dismissed Delowar Hossain from the post of cegistrar, citing various allegations. The following year, on April 4, Delowar Hossain filed a case against this dismissal order in the 9th Assistant Judge Court of Dhaka.
After a long judicial process, the court delivered the verdict, declaring the dismissal order illegal.
