Three more people died from dengue while 700 were hospitalised across the country in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest figures, released Wednesday by the Health Emergency Operations Centre and Control Room of the DGHS, cover the period from 8am on Tuesday to 8am on Wednesday.
With the latest fatalities, the total number of deaths from dengue this year has risen to 220. A total of 52,104 people have been infected nationwide since the beginning of 2025.
Among the three individuals who died in the last 24 hours, two were residents of Dhaka city, one from Dhaka North City Corporation and the other from Dhaka South. The third victim was from outside the capital, the DGHS report confirmed.
Meanwhile, 666 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals across the country after recovering during the same period. Thousands of others remain under treatment in various healthcare facilities.
Region-wise, the number of new infections over the past 24 hours is as follows, 142 in Dhaka Division (including 141 in Dhaka North City and 114 in Dhaka South City), 131 in Barishal, 70 in Chattogram, 41 in Khulna, 34 in Mymensingh, 32 in Rajshahi, and 10 in Rangpur Division.
September recorded the highest number of dengue-related deaths this year, with 76 fatalities. This was followed by 41 deaths in July, 39 in August, and 21 deaths in the first week of October alone.
The DGHS has been tracking dengue cases since 2000. According to its records, 2023 was the deadliest year on record, with 321,179 hospitalisations and 1,705 deaths attributed to the mosquito-borne virus.
