Five more people have died from dengue while 668 new patients have been admitted to hospitals with the fever across the country in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning.

The new deaths bring the total dengue-related fatalities to 187 this year.

The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) released the information in a press statement on Wednesday.

According to the update, among the newly admitted dengue patients, 158 were reported from Barisal division, 106 from Chattogram division, 126 from Dhaka division, 41 from Khulna division, 30 from Mymensingh division, 35 from Rajshahi division (Outside the city corporations) and 94 from Dhaka North City Corporation, 73 from Dhaka South City Corporation.

During the same period, 771 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals. So far this year, a total of 41,638 patients have recovered and been released.

Up to 24 September this year, the total number of reported dengue cases stands at 43,841, with 60.5 per cent male and 39.5 per cent female patients.

Last year, a total of 101,214 people were infected with dengue, with 575 deaths recorded.

In comparison, in 2023, there were 321,179 hospitalidations due to dengue and 1,705 deaths reported across the country.
