Indian Border Security Force (BSF) tried to pushed 19 Bangla-speaking people, including women and children, inside Bangladesh territory through Chamusha and Chanshikari border points in Bholahat upazila of Chapainawabganj. This marks the third such attempt of Indian BSF in recent times.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and locals said members of the 119 BSF Battalion from Kanchantar camp pushed them in around 5am Wednesday near international pillar 196/2-S. Among the group were 3 children, 6 women and 10 men.
In a press release, Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria, Commanding Officer (CO) of BGB Battalion 59, said initial questioning revealed that the group had entered India illegally between 2015 and 2024 in search of work. They were arrested by Indian police at different times and later served varying jail terms. Upon completion of their prison sentences, they were handed over to BSF, who pushed them into Bangladesh early Wednesday.
He added that the detainees were intercepted by BGB patrols and will be handed over to Bholahat police after questioning.
