Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has termed the egg-throwing incident targeting National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhter Hossen as regrettable.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan on Monday night local time.
“It is an undesirable incident. Our Consulate and the Foreign Ministry will look into the matter,” he said in response to questions from journalists.
Providing updates on the Chief Adviser’s engagements, Shafiqul Alam noted that Muhammad Yunus attended a UN event focused on social business, organized by the IMF, where he delivered a speech. He later participated in another function where he was honored with an SDG Award, alongside two other recipients.
The Press Secretary also briefed the media on a meeting between the Chief Adviser and Sergio Gor, US Special Representative for South and Central Asia and Ambassador-designate to India.
During the meeting, the Chief Adviser reiterated that Bangladesh is well-prepared for its upcoming national election, promising that the polls would be “free, fair, and impartial.”
The US side expressed readiness to support Bangladesh’s efforts. Discussions also touched on reviving SAARC, strengthening ties with Nepal and Bhutan, and Bangladesh’s aspiration to join ASEAN.
Shafiqul Alam added that trade relations with the United States were also on the agenda.
He noted that Sergio Gor, a close associate of former US President Donald Trump, would personally discuss these matters with Trump.
