Jamie Vardy showed his fiery side at his official Cremonese unveiling when asked about his age and motivation.
The 38-year-old striker joined the newly promoted Italian club on a one-year deal after leaving Leicester City at the end of last season. Many thought the move marked the closing chapter of his career, but Vardy made it clear he is not slowing down.
At the unveiling, held at Cremonese’s violin museum, a reporter asked if a player near his 40s could stay fit and motivated. Vardy snapped back. “You must be one of the doubters. You are one I have to prove wrong. Age is just a number. My legs still feel fresh. There are no signs of slowing down, and I will give my all for this club.”
Vardy has moved to Italy with his wife Rebekah, while their five children are waiting on visas in England. He admitted the change is difficult but said the reception in Lombardy has been “absolutely brilliant,” even drawing comparisons to the welcome Cristiano Ronaldo received at Juventus.
The forward revealed he was convinced to join Cremonese after a long video call with the manager. “His passion and desire to push the club forward really struck me. As a footballer, it is always nice to feel wanted,” Vardy said.
For now, he stays in touch with his children through daily video calls. He said the family will reunite soon once paperwork is cleared.
Cremonese have started strongly in Serie A and sit joint top after two matches. Vardy could make his debut on Saturday when they face Inter Milan at the San Siro.
