Indian filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap has once again reignited his long-running feud with Salman Khan and his family, alleging they attempted to derail his career after he refused to direct ‘Dabangg 2’.
In an interview with Indian media, Kashyap claimed Salman “is not really interested in acting” and is more focused on fame than craft. “He comes on set as if he’s doing a big favor. In fact, he is a goon… shameless and bad,” the director said, recalling his experience working with the actor on ‘Dabangg’ (2010).
Kashyap further alleged the Khan family has a stranglehold over Bollywood: “They want to take over the entire industry. They are vengeful. If you don’t agree with them, they will come after you. Salman is the father of the ‘star system’ in Bollywood.”
He also drew parallels with the struggles of his brother, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, during Tere Naam (2003). “Anurag wrote the script, but after clashing with producer Boney Kapoor, he left the project and wasn’t even credited as screenwriter. The same thing happened to me.”
According to Abhinav, Bollywood’s most powerful families distort the creative process, “The basis of a good film is a good screenplay, but everything is controlled their way.”
