A group of individuals has set fire to the Jatiya Party (JaPa) office in the city’s Kakrail area, sparking tension in the neighbourhood. A significant number of police officers have been deployed to maintain order.
Eyewitnesses reported that a group of protesters marched toward the JaPa office in Kakrail on Saturday afternoon. Shortly after, they attacked the office and set it on fire. The police responded by charging batons to disperse the demonstrators.
Over fifty JaPa members were reportedly inside the office around 6pm, while the outside environment was tense.
The incident comes a day after clashes between Jatiya Party and Gono Odhikar Parishad members in Bijoynagar, Dhaka, on the night of August 29.
Police and joint forces used batons and force to disperse both sides during the conflict, leaving at least 50 individuals injured, including top leaders Nurul Haque Nur and Rashed Khan from Gono Odhikar Parishad.
Following the unrest, new tensions flared up on Saturday near the Kakrail office, and law enforcement agencies are on high alert, trying to maintain control of the situation.
