Jahangirnagar University’s Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) elections will see a new panel named the “Independent Commitment Council”, announced during a press briefing on Saturday at 5pm near the New Arts Faculty of the varsity.
The panel is led by Mahfuz Islam Megh, spokesperson of the Jahangirnagar University Cultural Alliance, who is contesting the vice president (VP) position. Md Nazmul Islam will run for the general secretary (GS) post under the same panel.
Syeda Meher Afroz Shaoli, convener of the council and candidate for education and research secretary, explained the formation of the panel.
“I engaged with education and research-oriented candidates who shared a common vision. From these discussions, a group of young independent candidates who uphold the same ideals came together to form the Independent Commitment Council. We will contest various positions independently, based on our qualifications,” she said.
Other candidates on the panel include Shahidul Islam Shimul for literature and publication secretary, Sadia Rahman Mohona for cultural secretary, Sheikh Alam Imran for co-cultural secretary, Topu Chandra Das for drama secretary, and Sasshoto PK for transport and communication secretary.
