Ganosamhati Andolon Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki has called for an urgent and comprehensive investigation into the brutal attack on Nurul Haque Nur, president of Gono Odhikar Parishad, who remains in critical condition at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Speaking to journalists after visiting Nur at the hospital on Saturday, Saki condemned the attack in the strongest terms and demanded full accountability. “This was not a random act of violence. Nur and Rashed Khan were waiting for a press briefing after attending a Mass Rights programme when they were attacked by police and joint forces. It’s crucial to identify who orchestrated this assault and under whose orders it was carried out,” Saki said.
Saki also mentioned the current complex political situation in the country, emphasizing the need for simultaneous progress in justice, reform, and elections. “There seems to be an attempt to create uncertainty around the elections,” he added.
Saki further demanded an official explanation from the government regarding the attack and called for swift and decisive action. “The united opposition must stay resolute in combating fascism and advancing democratic reforms. No one should be allowed to derail the processes of justice and reform. If we remain united, no conspiracy will prevail,” he declared.
Accompanying Saki during his visit to the hospital were Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan and other prominent figures from both the Parishad and Ganosamhati Andolon.
