The Bangladesh Army has uncovered a local weapons manufacturing facility in the Chinnamul area of Salimpur Union, Sitakunda, Chattogram.
The raid, conducted on Saturday, followed intelligence gathered by the security forces. The operation was carried out by troops from the Sindhukchhari Zone under the Khagrachhari Guimara Region.
During the operation, the army seized a wide range of arms and materials used for weapon production.
Among the recovered items were six homemade firearms, 35 empty cartridges, five live rounds, a Chinese machete, 20 knives, two walkie-talkies with chargers, a megaphone, four parachute flares, and various weapon-making tools and equipment.
Mujibur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sitakunda Police Station, confirmed to Times of Bangladesh that the arms were seized as part of a joint operation between the army and the police. He added that further details would be shared at a press conference soon.
The four individuals arrested in connection with the illegal operation have been transferred to the police for further interrogation. The army assured that similar operations will continue to combat illegal arms manufacturing and terrorism in the region.
