Walton has earned the prestigious LEED Platinum Certification for its Mold and Die Factory complex, cementing its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. Awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the certification recognizes Walton’s exceptional efforts in energy and water efficiency, sustainable development, and eco-friendly manufacturing practices.
On Wednesday, the official certification ceremony took place at Walton’s corporate office in Dhaka, where SM Shamsul Alam, Chairman of Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC, and SM Mahbubul Alam, Managing Director, received the LEED Platinum award.
The ceremony was attended by Walton’s senior leadership team, along with Ananta Ahmed, an international green building expert from 360-Degree Total Solution Limited, who provided technical support for achieving the certification.
In his speech, SM Shamsul Alam shared his pride in Walton’s achievement, saying, “Receiving the LEED Platinum Certification for our Mold and Die Factory highlights Walton’s dedication to environmentally responsible practices. We are committed to creating a better world for future generations, and our sustainable practices are integrated throughout our manufacturing processes.”
SM Mahbubul Alam, Managing Director, expressed gratitude to 360-Degree Total Solution for their invaluable support in achieving this milestone.
He reiterated Walton’s long-standing commitment to environmental protection and sustainability, highlighting the company’s efforts in line with UN Sustainable Development Goals. Walton has prioritised reducing carbon emissions, conserving water, and utilizing energy-efficient designs in every phase of its operations.
The Mold and Die Factory features several innovative green initiatives, including a rooftop solar power system, a floating solar power system, rainwater harvesting, an advanced ventilation system, and plastic and metal recycling programs. These initiatives showcase Walton’s unwavering focus on sustainable development.
Ananta Ahmed noted that Walton is the first electronics company in Bangladesh to achieve the prestigious LEED Platinum Certification, a significant achievement in the nation’s electronics sector.
The LEED rating system evaluates buildings based on energy and water usage, material selection, carbon emissions, and indoor environmental quality. Walton’s Mold and Die Factory achieved the highest possible score, earning the Platinum distinction.
Spanning 376,000 square feet, the factory is designed with green architectural principles, including ample natural light to reduce electricity use and a 2.1 MW rooftop solar power system that generates more electricity than the factory consumes. Walton has also integrated advanced ventilation systems to ensure a comfortable internal environment, alongside comprehensive rainwater collection and reuse measures.
Walton’s LEED Platinum Certification reaffirms its leadership in promoting sustainability and eco-friendly business practices in Bangladesh.
