Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain has said that no street vendors will be allowed to sell goods in Agrabad, the main commercial area of the port city, before 6pm.

He warned that strict action will be taken against those for setting up shops illegally occupying pavement and roads during office hours.

While inspecting the area from Agrabad Hotel to Badamtali intersection on Monday afternoon, the mayor said that Agrabad is an international standard commercial area. Domestic and foreign businessmen and tourists travel the area every day. If street vendors occupy roads and pavements during office hours, the image of the city will be tarnished and the suffering to the common people will increase.

He mentioned that vendors will be allowed to do business using vans and umbrellas carts from 6pm to midnight. They cannot permanently occupy the roads or footpaths  in the name of business. City corporation officials, who were present during that time, have urged locals and shopkeepers to follow the new instructions.
