The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has placed 123 individuals, including former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Patwary, under surveillance following a fresh controversy surrounding the book The Unfinished Memoirs, purportedly written by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The officials are accused of obtaining government positions, money, and flats in exchange for writing and editing the book.
ACC Director General Md. Akhter Hossain disclosed this information at a press conference held at the ACC’s media center in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, on Sunday.
He confirmed that the ACC took notice of a recent media report about the matter and has initiated intelligence activities to investigate the allegations. Further steps will be taken after the allegations are verified.
The Unfinished Memoirs was first published in 2012. At that time, then-prime minister Sheikh Hasina claimed that the book was published after editing and correcting four books originally written by her father, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
However, a recent investigative report has claimed that the book was, in fact, written by former IGP Javed Patwary and 122 other officials under his leadership. According to the allegations, these officials were rewarded with money, flats, and other government benefits for their involvement in the project.
The ACC is now in the process of gathering detailed information about the complaint to proceed with further investigation.
