Jessica Williams, recently nominated for an Emmy for her role in Apple TV+’s ‘Shrinking’, made a guest appearance on The Daily Show — where she criticized former President Donald Trump for targeting prominent Black figures as a distraction from the Jeffrey Epstein case.
“Trump’s throwing every Black icon he can think of at this scandal,” she said. “He released the MLK Jr. files, accused Obama of treason and now he’s coming for Oprah and Beyoncé?”
Williams, who was a correspondent on the show until 2016, joked that Trump was going after “all our greatest Black people,” asking, “Who’s next? Michael Jordan? Michael B. Jordan? Michael C. Jordan?”
In her trademark comedic style, she quipped that the world is “a week away from Trump claiming Urkel did 9/11.”
Her jokes took a playful turn toward self-reflection as she questioned why she has not been targeted yet. When Jon Stewart reassured her she had nothing to worry about, she shot back, “Excuse me? What, I’m not famous enough for Trump to accuse me of treason? I’m Emmy-nominated!”
“I should at least be accused of misdemeanor election fraud, you butthead,” she teased.
When Stewart asked if she would be nervous if she were targeted, Williams replied coolly, “Old white guys love compliments from Black women.” To prove her point, she complimented Stewart’s haircut and he melted on the spot.
