A 16-month-old child drowned in a pond in the Fazilpur area of Charpakerdah union in Madarganj upazila of Jamalpur district on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Ratul, son of Munjurul Islam, resident of the same area.
According to the family, Ratul was playing in the courtyard of his house around noon when he went unnoticed to a nearby pond and fell into the water. Relatives later found his body floating in the pond.
He was taken to Madarganj Upazila Health Complex, where the duty doctor declared him dead.
Nahiduzzaman, residential medical officer (RMO) of the health complex, confirmed that the child had died before arriving at the hospital.
