MBC Studios has announced a November 19 theatrical release for the psychological thriller Traveller’s Hell, which follows a young woman who picks up a stranger on a remote road, writes Deadline.
The film is adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by Saudi author Osamah Almuslim, who also wrote the screenplay.
The release marks a major milestone in MBC Studios’ partnership with Almuslim. The studio first announced the partnership more than two years ago to adapt several of his popular literary works for film and television.
Traveller’s Hell also marks the feature directorial debut of Saudi filmmaker Hana Alomair.
She previously co-wrote and directed Whispers, one of Netflix’s first original series from Saudi Arabia after the country’s entertainment industry began opening up in 2017.
The film will initially release in Saudi cinemas, with screenings in other Arab cities expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Shot across Saudi Arabia, the film stars Adwa Bader, Basil Alsole, Mohammed Ali, Shojaat Nashat and Aziz Gharbawi.
The story begins late at night on an isolated mountain road known for disappearances and murders. A young woman driving alone encounters a stranded man whose car has broken down.
Despite a growing sense of unease, she decides to help him and offers him a ride to the nearest station.
Her decision soon leads to a series of strange and terrifying events. What begins as a simple act of kindness turns into a nightmare as the two face a night filled with danger and uncertainty.
The film is part of MBC Studios’ wider effort to bring Almuslim’s popular literary works to the screen.
