Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain on Saturday announced that the tender process to upgrade Patiya Upazila Health Complex to a 151-bed facility would begin within 15 days.
He made the announcement during a visit to the health complex at noon.
During the inspection, the minister reviewed doctors’ attendance, supplies of medicines and saline, diagnostic facilities and biomedical management at the hospital.
He also instructed the authorities to maintain the quality of food served to admitted patients and ensure that all blood tests are carried out within the hospital.
Responding to journalists, Sakhawat said steps had been taken to modernise and properly equip Patiya Health Complex.
He said 50-bed hospitals across the country were being upgraded to 101-bed facilities in phases. Considering Patiya’s importance, however, the government had decided to upgrade the health complex directly to 151 beds.
“The tender process will begin within the next 15 days,” he said.
Patiya lawmaker Enamul Haque Enam said during the visit that expanding the hospital had become necessary because Patiya, a former subdivision, serves a large population.
Chattogram Divisional Health Director Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, Civil Surgeon Sajedur Rahman and other senior health officials were also present.
