A flight from Melbourne was cancelled on Wednesday, forcing David Hemp to change his plans to join the Bangladesh women’s team in Dhaka. A source close to Hemp told TIMES on Thursday. The newly appointed head coach will now meet the Tigresses in Brisbane,
Bangladesh are currently holding a preparation camp for their three-match ODI series against Australia, with the matches scheduled for October 9, 11 and 14.
Hemp’s arrival in Brisbane will mark the start of his two-year stint as Bangladesh women’s head coach, with his contract running until September 2028. He replaces Sarwar Imran, who had been in charge of the national women’s team since February 2025.
The appointment gives Hemp another opportunity to work with the Bangladesh women’s setup. He previously served as the team’s batting coach during the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifier in Pakistan in 2025 and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Nepal earlier this year.
Hemp has been part of the BCB coaching structure since May 2023, when he took charge of the High Performance programme. He was later appointed batting coach of the men’s national team in 2024, having previously been part of the men’s coaching staff during their tour of New Zealand in 2023.
The former Warwickshire all-rounder also has extensive experience in women’s cricket. He served as head coach of the Pakistan women’s national team from 2020 to 2022 and previously coached Victoria State Women and the Melbourne Stars in the Women’s Big Bash League.
