The International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) on Wednesday directed investigators to submit their reports by 30 November against former army officers Ziaul Ahsan and Tareque Sayeed Mohammad.
The two face separate charges of crimes against humanity over enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings committed during Awami League regime.
The tribunal issued the order after hearing a time petition submitted by the prosecution.
Presenting the arguments, Prosecutor Mohammad Ali Mia noted that although Wednesday was scheduled for submitting the reports, the investigation officers requested an extension of two additional months.
He informed the court that the accused had already been interrogated, after which the tribunal fixed new date for submitting the probe reports.
Both accused were produced before the tribunal during the hearing.
Earlier, on 10 August, Ziaul and Tareque were shown arrested in separate cases of enforced disappearance and extrajudicial killing following a prosecution petition.
Prosecutor Shyikh Mahdi stated that on 15 December 2013, Lakshmipur BNP leaders Abdul Mannan, Jahirul Islam Sumon, and Asaduzzaman Babul were extrajudicially killed. In the same incident, BNP activist Bellal Hossain was forcibly disappeared.
In addition, charges were brought regarding the enforced disappearance of BNP leaders Saiful Islam Hiru and Humayun Kabir Parvez from Laksham, Cumilla, on 27 November 2013.
According to the prosecution’s allegations, at the time of these occurrences, Lt Col Tareque served as the commanding officer (CO) of RAB-11, while Ziaul held the post of additional director general (operations) of RAB.
