Raihan Rafi’s horror film Andhar has been pushed back by more than five months, with its release now set for 26 March 2027 instead of the previously announced 16 October date.
Rafi said the delay will give the team more time to complete the visual effects and post-production. Releasing the film in October, he said, would have compromised its quality.
The director announced the new date in a video message on social media on Tuesday night. “Andhar is the film I have shot for the longest time in my career and made with the most care. I made it with a particular vision, and I want to show the audience something they have never seen before,” he said.
“We could have released the film on 16 October, but the visual effects and post-production work would not have been up to the standard. I do not want to compromise on quality when it comes to the audience,” he added.
Rafi said the team also considered the Eid release calendar before settling on 26 March, Independence Day, as the right time.
Shakib Chowdhury and Saidus Khaled Sumon, popularly known as Bassbaba Sumon of Aurthohin, developed the story. Their long-standing interest in paranormal stories and experience exploring supernatural incidents through the radio programme Bhoutist contributed to the concept. Adnan Adib Khan is also involved in the story and screenplay.
Directed by Rafi and produced by 221B Films, Andhar stars Siam Ahmed, Nazifa Tushi, Chanchal Chowdhury, Afsana Mimi, Gazi Rakayet, Mostafa Monwar and Tanjika Amin. Newcomers Farrukh Ahmed Rehan and Swarnali Choity will make their big-screen debuts with the film.
The film has generated interest since the makers began releasing character looks and promotional materials earlier this year. Its September teaser offered glimpses of its dark supernatural world while keeping much of the story under wraps.
