Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Delwar Hossain, backed by an 11-party alliance, submitted his nomination papers on Saturday for the by-election to the Thakurgaon-1 constituency.
Delwar submitted the nomination papers to District Election Officer and Returning Officer Kamrul Islam at the district election office around noon.
District Jamaat Ameer Md Belal Uddin Pradhan, Assistant Secretary Md Kafil Uddin and other party leaders and activists were present during the submission.
Speaking after submitting his nomination papers, Delwar expressed hope that voters would elect him in the by-election.
If elected, he said, he would work to make Thakurgaon free of corruption.
Kamrul Islam said candidates have until 4pm on 27 September to submit their nomination papers.
So far, five candidates have collected nomination papers, he said.
According to the election schedule, nomination papers will be scrutinised on 29 September. Voting in the Thakurgaon-1 constituency is scheduled to take place on 29 October.
