A businessman died after a gas cylinder fell on him from a building in the capital’s Kamrangirchar area Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as Jalal, 53. The incident occurred around 9pm in front of a mosque in the Noorbagh Police Outpost lane.

Jalal was critically injured and rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead around 10pm.

According to his wife, Beauty Akhtar, the couple lived in their own two-storey house in the mosque lane near the Noorbagh Police Outpost.

She said Jalal was standing in front of their residence at night when a gas cylinder fell onto his head from a floor of the neighbouring building. He collapsed on the ground immediately.

He was rescued in a critical condition and taken to DMCH, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Police Camp, confirmed the death, citing medical officers.

He said the body has been kept in the hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
