A young man was stabbed to death allegedly following a dispute over a mobile phone in the Chhontek area of Jatrabari in the capital early Friday.
The victim was identified as Rabbi, 25.
The incident took place on the road in front of Swapno Super Shop in Chhontek around Friday dawn. Police recovered the body and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Jatrabari Police Station Sub-Inspector Atanu De said Rabbi had an argument with two youths over a mobile phone in front of the shop in the early hours of Friday.
At one stage, the two youths stabbed Rabbi in the chest and fled the scene, he said.
Rabbi died on the spot. Police later recovered the body after being informed about the incident and sent it for post-mortem examination.
The SI said Rabbi was a resident of Noagaon village under Muradnagar Police Station in Cumilla. His father’s name is Harun-or-Rashid.
He had been living in the Gobindapur area of Jatrabari.
The police official also said two drug-related cases had been filed against Rabbi with Kadamtali Police Station.
Efforts are underway to arrest those involved in the killing, he added.
