Bangladesh Coast Guard has detained two smugglers and seized 700 bags (35,000 kg) of urea fertiliser worth approximately Tk24.5 lakh, along with three trucks, during an anti-smuggling operation near Bashbaria Ghat area under Sitakunda Police Station, Chattogram.

Acting on a tip-off, a special team from Coast Guard Station Bhatiari conducted the drive at 1am on Thursday intercepting the suspects while the consignment was being transferred from the trucks onto cargo boats to be illegally smuggled to Myanmar.

Disclosing the details on Thursday afternoon, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon confirmed the seizure and arrests.

He said the processing of further legal action regarding the seized fertiliser, the vehicles used in the crime, and the detained individuals is currently under way.

The media officer added that the coast guard will continue such drives in the future to curb smuggling activities.
