Snoop Dogg’s upcoming biopic has added a striking new name to its cast, with SwayvoTwain, the son of late musicians D’Angelo and Angie Stone, set to portray The Notorious B.I.G.
According to Deadline, the film, titled Snoop, will star Jonathan Daviss as Snoop Dogg and will chart the life and career of the rapper and entertainment mogul.
SwayvoTwain, whose real name is Michael D’Angelo Archer II, is a recording artist, songwriter and performer. The role marks his first major film appearance. His recent music includes DoveSoar and Ms. Angie’s Son, reflecting the influence of his parents on his musical career.
Christopher Wallace, better known as The Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie, became one of the most influential hip-hop artists of the 1990s. Snoop was signed to the West Coast label Death Row Records, while Biggie emerged as a leading figure in East Coast hip-hop. Despite the divide, the two rappers shared mutual respect.
The film has also cast Bentley Green as rapper RBX and G Perico as Big Reecie Cup. Both characters are linked to Snoop’s early career and his Long Beach roots.
They join a growing ensemble that includes Myles Bullock as Dr Dre, Lauren London as Snoop’s late mother Beverly Tate, Camron Jones as Tupac Shakur, Algee Smith as Warren G, Tre Hale as Suge Knight and Laya DeLeon Hayes as Snoop’s wife, Shante Broadus. Olly Sholotan will play Kurupt, Corey Champagne will portray Nate Dogg and Jonica Booth will appear as The Lady of Rage.
Craig Brewer, known for Hustle & Flow, is directing Snoop. He also rewrote the screenplay, which Joe Robert Cole originally wrote. Universal has scheduled the film for theatrical release on 6 August 2027.
Snoop Dogg is producing the biopic through Death Row Pictures alongside Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum, as well as Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker. The film will also feature music from Snoop’s extensive catalogue.
