Gulshan Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) has arrested five individuals on charges of preparing for a robbery in Dhaka’s Banani area.
A foreign-made pistol, a magazine, a walkie-talkie, a pair of handcuffs bearing the Bangladesh Police monogram, a roll of black adhesive tape, a shopping bag, and a HiAce microbus were recovered during the operation.
The DB Chief and Additional Commissioner of Police (Intelligence), Md Shafiqul Islam, disclosed these details during a press conference held at DMP Media Centre on Thursday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Masud Rana, 29, Md Rajib Howlader, 30, Hafizul Matabbar, 24, Mohammad Shakil Hossain, 24, and Md Badal, 42.

Acting on secret information, a 45-member team from the DB conducted the raid. The suspects were caught red-handed in front of Khayer Palace on Road No. 4, Block-A, under Banani Police Station as they made preparations for the robbery.
The DB chief said investigations are currently underway to determine whether the arrestees are linked to any organised crime syndicate, to identify the source of the recovered firearm, and to check if they have been involved in prior criminal activities.
Legal action is being processed against the suspects at Banani Police Station. Meanwhile, Detective Branch operations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the gang.
