Georgia has opted not to join the European Union’s latest sanctions against Iran, with the government saying its foreign policy is guided solely by national interests, Georgian media reported.
Tengiz Sharmanashvili, a lawmaker from the ruling Georgian Dream party, said Tbilisi would not support international policies that run counter to its own priorities, reports Al Jazeera.
He said Georgia’s position on international resolutions and measures would be determined only by whether they serve the country’s interests at the time.
“If a decision goes against those interests, we do not care whose interests it serves,” Sharmanashvili said, according to local media.
