A Dhaka court on Thursday ordered the seizure of 18 plots of land and two vehicles belonging to former railway minister Md Mujibul Haque in Cumilla in a corruption case.
The court also ordered the freezing of six bank accounts in his name.
Metropolitan Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Shahjahan Kabir passed the orders following a petition filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director Papon Kumar Saha.
According to the ACC petition, Mujibul allegedly acquired assets worth Tk7.39 crore beyond his known sources of income while serving as railway minister and a member of parliament.
The ACC accused him of abusing his position as a public servant and, in collusion with others and with dishonest intent, acquiring and possessing the assets.
The commission filed the case under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
During the investigation, the ACC reviewed relevant records and found that attempts were allegedly being made to transfer or dispose of immovable and movable assets held by Mujibul or linked to his interests.
The commission told the court that transferring or disposing of the assets before the case is concluded could cause substantial loss.
The court subsequently ordered the seizure of the 18 plots and two vehicles and directed the relevant banks to freeze the six accounts.
