A 20-year-old youth was beaten up by local residents and handed over to the police on Saturday after allegedly attempting to rape a child aged three years and eight months in Bagherpara Upazila of Jashore.
The incident occurred in Dashpakiya village under the upazila.
According to local residents, the child was returning home from a madrasa when the neighbour, identified as Hayatul, 20, allegedly attempted to rape her. Upon learning of the incident, the family members rescued the victim and rushed her to Bagherpara Upazila Health Complex.
The on-duty physician at the health complex referred the child to Jashore General Hospital for a medical examination to test for signs of rape.

He added that the child has been sent to Jashore General Hospital for medical testing, and necessary action will be taken once the test results are obtained.
