Home Minister and BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed on Saturday said the party was not only fulfilling its election promises but also implementing initiatives beyond its manifesto.
“BNP is delivering on its commitments and going beyond them,” he said while responding to criticism over the government’s initiatives during its first 180 days.
He made the remarks at an event held at Dhaka’s Osmani Memorial Auditorium.
The senior BNP leader described the retirement benefits being provided to retired private-school teachers as the party’s “32nd point”, saying the initiative was not included in the election manifesto.
He said each retired teacher would receive around Tk5 lakh to Tk7 lakh through the digitised iBAS++ system, with the money transferred directly to their bank accounts.
Highlighting the education initiatives taken during the tenure of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Ahmed said efforts to promote practical, production-oriented and technical education began during that period.
He added that former prime minister Khaleda Zia introduced the system of retirement benefits for teachers.
