The death toll from flooding in India’s Assam state has risen to 78, with seven districts still affected by the disaster, according to the latest official data.

The floods have affected 551 villages and 21 local administrative areas, impacting 300,031 people across the state, reports NDTV.

Floodwaters have also damaged 21,523.08 hectares of agricultural land.

The latest update confirmed three additional flood-related deaths, bringing the overall death toll to 78.

The state capital has also experienced urban flooding, with several neighbourhoods inundated. However, official data said no residents have been reported affected by the urban flooding

The government is providing food materials, and additional supplies such as clothing and other necessities are being distributed.

Approximately 30 vehicles loaded with relief materials are currently stationed, with efforts ongoing to support the affected population.
