Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has successfully thwarted an attempt by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to push eight individuals into Bangladesh through the Daulatpur border in Kushtia on Friday.
Following a firm stance by BGB, the individuals were forced to return to Indian territory via a river route.
The incident occurred around 5:10am near border pillar 152/1-S, adjacent to Joypur Border Outpost (BOP) in Mahishkundi area of Pragpur Union, Daulatpur upazila. This area falls under the jurisdiction of Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB).
According to BGB sources, members of 146 BSF Battalion from Char Meghna camp attempted to facilitate the entry of eight unidentified individuals into Bangladesh by having them swim across the river. The group consisted of two men, four women, and two transgender persons.
Upon detecting the movement, a BGB patrol team immediately took a strict position at the border. Unable to enter Bangladesh due to the BGB’s presence, the individuals returned to India using the river route, effectively failing the BSF’s push-in attempt.
Confirming the incident, Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Roni, commanding officer of 47 BGB Battalion, said, “BGB remains constantly alert and prepared to prevent any form of illegal intrusion or attempts to violate border laws. The BGB continues to perform its duties with the highest professionalism to ensure border security and maintain peace and order.”
This is not an isolated incident, as BSF has made several push-in attempts through the Daulatpur border this year.
On 12 June, an attempt was made to send 12 people, including women and children, across the border. On the same night, another 12 individuals were pushed towards the Bilgatua and Joypur borders.
Similar attempts were made at Challispara border on 14 June and Munshiganj Ghat border on 25 June, involving one person in each instance. All such attempts were thwarted by the strict surveillance of BGB and the cooperation of residents.
