Jamaat-e-Islami has said it will investigate allegations involving Satkhira-4 lawmaker Gazi Nazrul Islam and take necessary organisational measures after gathering relevant facts and evidence.
The party’s Assistant Secretary General and Central Publicity and Media Department Secretary Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair made the statement in a press release on Tuesday.
“Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is monitoring reports published in various media outlets and on social media involving Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam,” Zubair said.
He said statements from Gazi Nazrul Islam himself, his first and second wives, and the father of his second wife had already appeared in the media regarding the issue.
“The party will collect more information on the matter. After gathering facts and evidence about the actual incident, necessary steps will be taken according to the organisational rules of the party,” the statement added.
The statement comes after a video involving the Jamaat lawmaker circulated on social media, sparking discussion online.
The MP and the woman seen in the video have claimed that she is his second wife.
