A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking directives for enacting a law titled the “Men’s Protection from Abuse and Prevention Act”.
The petition, filed by Supreme Court lawyer Kazi Eliasur Rahman, was expected to come up for hearing on Tuesday before a High Court bench comprising Justice Rajik Al Jalil and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury.
It sought a ruling on why the inaction of the authorities concerned in enacting a law to protect men from harassment through misuse of existing laws should not be declared unlawful.
The petition also requested directives to enact the proposed law to safeguard men from harassment allegedly resulting from misuse of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the Dowry Prohibition Act.
