World Bank Division Director for Bangladesh Jean Pesme held a courtesy meeting with the Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin, on Tuesday.
During the meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon in the afternoon, discussions took place regarding various priority programmes of the government.
Key topics of exchange included the Family Card and Farmer Card initiatives, nationwide employment generation, increasing female employment, the expansion of technical and vocational education, and the economic empowerment of women at the marginal and grassroots levels.
Particular emphasis was placed on the effective nationwide expansion of the Family Card programme- an initiative of the BNP government- and methods to further include poor and marginal populations, especially women, through this scheme.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of developing skilled human resources and strengthening an employment-oriented education system.
Detailed discussions were held on the empowerment of all people at the grassroots level, various priorities within the BNP election manifesto, government policies, and strategies for their effective implementation.
Both parties exchanged views on potential cooperation aimed at ensuring inclusive development, public welfare, job creation, and the participation of all segments of society.
The World Bank representatives expressed an interest in sharing their experiences of implementing development programmes in various countries with Bangladesh.
They also conveyed their willingness to provide necessary technical assistance for the implementation of the government’s priority programmes and to work alongside the government in relevant sectors.
The World Bank delegation also included Gail H Martin, Dhruv Sharma, Anika Rahman, Syed Rashed, Al-Zayed Josh, and Shrayna Bhattacharya.
