Police have arrested the head of a madrasa in Chandraganj, Lakshmipur, following allegations of sexually harassing a student.
The arrestee, Maulana Abdul Ahad, was detained from the madrasa on Sunday night and produced before a local court on Monday afternoon. The court ordered him sent to jail.
Chandraganj Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge Md Abdur Rob said the victim’s family filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
According to the family, the incident occurred around 9pm Saturday when the accused summoned the student to his room and sexually harassed her. The child fled the madrasa the following day and informed her mother.
Family members then alerted police and locals, leading to Ahad’s arrest.
