Three more people died of dengue across the country in the last 24 hours until Monday morning, while 372 new patients were admitted to various hospitals.
According to the latest report from Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the total death toll from the mosquito-borne disease this year has reached 37.
Of the three fatalities reported in the last 24 hours, one occurred in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) area, one in Khulna division, and one in Barishal division (outside the city corporation).
During the same period, the highest number of new admissions was recorded in Dhaka division (outside city corporation areas) with 177 patients.
Elsewhere, 67 patients were hospitalised in Barishal division, 54 in Chattogram division, 43 in Khulna division, 21 in Mymensingh division, six in Rangpur division, and four in Rajshahi division. No new cases were reported in Sylhet division during these 24 hours.
Official data reveals that a total of 10,857 dengue patients have been hospitalised since 1 January. Among them, 9,786 have been discharged after treatment, while 1,034 patients currently remain under care in various hospitals across the country.
In terms of regional distribution this year, Barishal division has recorded the highest number of hospitalisations with 2,595 cases. This is followed by Dhaka division (outside city corporations) with 1,878 cases, Chattogram division with 1,876, and Khulna division with 1,425. Other divisions include Mymensingh (417), Rajshahi (351), Rangpur (122), and Sylhet (83).
A demographic analysis of the 372 patients admitted in the last 24 hours shows that 222 are male and 150 are female. The 21-25 age group remains the most affected with 58 cases, followed by 51 cases in the 16-20 age group and 49 cases in the 26-30 age group.
The DGHS further noted that while 60.9 per cent of total infections this year are among men and 39.1 per cent among women, the mortality rate tells a different story.
Women account for 59.5 per cent of total Dengue deaths, while men account for 40.5 per cent.
