Manusher Bagan, produced by Impress Telefilm, has won the Critics Award at the NABC North American Bengali Conference in New York, USA, adding another international honour to the Bangladeshi film.
Guests at the event praised Impress Telefilm’s contribution to promoting Bangla cinema on the global stage. The film was also screened during the conference, where expatriate Bengali audiences watched the critically acclaimed production on the big screen.
Director Nurul Alam Atique said Manusher Bagan weaves together five stories centred on people from different walks of life. The four-day conference brought together thousands of Bengalis from various states across North America and celebrated Bengali heritage through cultural performances, music, theatre and film screenings.
Earlier, Manusher Bagan won the Best Film award at the 15th Delhi International Film Festival in New Delhi, India. Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner to India Preeti Rahman accepted the award on behalf of Bangladesh. The film also became the first Bangladeshi release of the year to receive censor clearance.
The cast includes Prosun Azad, Manoj Kumar, Jyotika Jyoti, Swagata, Munira Mithu, Mahmud Alam, Dipanwita Martin, and Archita Sporshia, among others.
Popular band Chirkutt performed the film’s title track. In addition to the film, Manusher Bagan has also been published as a book written by director Nurul Alam Atique.
