Twenty-eight years after Hothat Brishti first won over audiences, its new version Abar Hothat Brishti arrives in cinemas today. The film opens in 14 theatres across Bangladesh.

Directed by Kamruzzaman, the film stars newcomers Arian Sarowar and Radifa Narmin in the lead roles. Ashirbad Chalachchitra and Impress Telefilm jointly produced the film.

Abar Hothat Brishti is a new version of the 1998 Bangladesh-India joint production Hothat Brishti. Indian filmmaker Basu Chatterjee directed the original, which starred Ferdous Ahmed and Priyanka Trivedi.

The new film is screening at three Star Cineplex branches — Bashundhara City Shopping Mall in Panthapath, Sony Square in Mirpur and Shimanto Tower in Narayanganj. It is also playing at Grand Sylhet Movie Theatre in Sylhet, Lion Cinemas in Keraniganj, Shyamoli in Dhaka, Monihar in Jashore, Liberty in Khulna, K Screen in Cumilla, Swapnil in Kushtia, Mom-In in Bogura, Cinescope in Narayanganj, Sugandha in Chattogram and Chandmahal in Kachpur.

The film held its premiere at Star Cineplex Centrepoint in Uttara on Wednesday. Impress Telefilm and Channel i Managing Director Faridur Reza Sagar, Ashirbad Chalachchitra head Habibur Rahman Khan, lead actors Arian Sarowar and Radifa Narmin, and director Kamruzzaman attended the event.

The story follows Deepa, an educated but unemployed woman from Brahmanbaria who moves to Dhaka in search of a job. After several unsuccessful interviews, she decides to return home.

During the train journey, Deepa loses her bag. Anjan, an orphan travelling to Sreemangal for a new job, finds it and sends it to the address inside. Deepa writes to thank him, and the two begin exchanging letters. Although they have never met, their correspondence gradually grows into love.

The cast also includes Azad Abul Kalam, Jhuna Chowdhury, Farzana Chhobi, Mou Khan, Kayes Arzu, Apurba Ghosh, Sanjida Nahar Swarna, Nazmul Sarkar Nihad, Ashmita Elizabeth Chiran and others.

Chhotku Ahmed wrote the screenplay and dialogue based on a story by S Agathiyan. Habibur Rahman Khan produced the film, while Emon Saha and Apu Aman composed the music.
