Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has said that Kushtia Islamic University will be transformed into an international “centre of excellence” to enhance its global standing,
He made the announcement on Tuesday while speaking as chief guest at the “Best Institutions and Unique Students Award Ceremony 2026”, organised by the Islamic Arabic University (IAU) at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital.
The minister said the government is prioritising the development of Islamic education due to its emphasis on ethics and morality, which he described as the foundation of “true education”. He cautioned that a nation without moral values faces inevitable decline.
“It is less important which university a government official graduated from than how many honest officials the country actually has,” he said, adding that the expansion of Islamic education is essential for fostering moral values among citizens.
Highlighting institutional challenges, Milon pointed to a shortage of teachers in Islamic subjects across educational institutions and directed the Islamic Arabic University to revise its curriculum to ensure a steady supply of qualified educators.
The ceremony was presided over by Islamic Arabic University Vice-Chancellor Professor Abu Jafar Khan. Education Secretary Abdul Khaleq and Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Director General Professor Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel attended as special guests.
At the event, awards were given to 100 top-performing institutions. In addition, 147 students who secured A+ grades in Fazil and Kamil examinations for the 2023 and 2024 academic years were honoured for their academic achievements.
